Hello all

Got some issues needing advice here.

Q1. Is it possible to use a both a parametic preamp and electronic crossover in one system?

System Flow:
HU -> para preamp -> e crossover -> amps -> speakers.

Q2. Are there any advantages or disadvantages with the above setup? What should I look out for?

I noticed that the para preamp breaks up the front, rear and sub channels (3 RCAs). However my e-xover has only two inputs: front speakers, and (combined for) rear speakers and subs.

Q3. In this case, how should I be able to fit up the 3 outputs from the para preamp into the only 2 inputs of the e-xover?

All advice and inputs are highly appreciated.

Cheers and well wishes to all.

should just use 2 out of 3, front to front, and sub to sub/rear.

how many rca from your HU? i think its better to do just one rca from HU to preamp to ecrossover using all front, just to avoid 3x filtering for the sub at HU (sub-out), preamp and ecrossover. make sure amp LP is also off or else 4x filtering.

cant really comment much on what can be done or what should be done bcoz i cant see exactly the items u are dealing with.

Thanks zenn, highly appreciated.

To make things clearer, my HU has 1 preout (Pioneer 3750MP) and the preamp is PYLE, which like any other preamps, where one input could be broken out into 3 sets of RCA ie. front, rear and sub.

The 3 way e-xover is the kicker x3i which has only 2 input jacks ie. 1 for front (has a frequency multiplier switch), and the other jack combines signal for rear speakers and the subs (which has a subsonic filter switch for the sub).

So, in this sense, what is the best way to connect these 3 preamp jacks into 2 e-xover jacks?

HU -> front out from preamp-> front input in e-xover (first jack)

HU-> REAR or SUB output from preamp -> combined rear and sub (second jack) of e-xover

The question and my confusion lies in red text above. How larrrrr..... hahaha

Thanks again...

Have check on Pioneer website for spec, your HU only can go to speakers only, not suitable for sub. So you have to use the pre-amp then crossover. Since crossover only have 2 output, you should use pre-amp output(sub) to sub, then the other 2 output to crossover then to your 4 channel amp...
Compare to my Hu 5750, mine got built in crossover but yours don't have. So you have to use your pre-amp and crossover to do the SQ job.
Your red text, you don't combine rear and sub together, have to seperate it, as sub is low frequency, speaker's frequency is higher.

i think single wiring can do oledi, Hu to eq front to xover front in.

Thanks for the input all.

Ok if i were to use the front out on the preamp to the front input on the x-over, then my front components are tuneable. That's fine.

My dillema is:

If I plug in the rear output from the preamp into the rear/sub input on the x-over, I would only be able to tune my rear components, right?

In this case, should I just connect the sub out from the preamp direct to the monoblock? This will make me lose tuning aspects of the subs...

Or should I plug in the sub output from the preamp into the rear/sub input of the x-over, and connect my rear output from the preamp direct to the amplifier?

Of the two above configuration, which would be more beneficial? The ability to tune subs or the ability to tune rear components?

Thanks, hope it's not confusing hehe

Whew!

Your crossover is it 2 input and 3 output? If yes then you still can tune your rear speakers and the same time you can tune your sub, your rear input when go to rear speakrs got selectors and the sub also got selector right? Only you will have a problem when you are using your crossover to sub and speakers at the same time. You cannot adjust the sub volume(when too high) and rear speakers volume seperately. Nothing much, only less control. But if you use pre-amp sub to your sub, then you will have more control. You can adjust your sub volume whenever you like.

Wah Brain Storming going on ere

Cheers my brothers =)

Just my 2 cents advise... just trow it your Pyle pre-amp into Klang/Gombak river... coz this 1 cap ayam brand & will give you more problem in future... Last night just uninstall 1 from my frend car... when his car got vibration pop pup sound came out from his speaker.... your HU 3750MP only have 1 pre-out... Kicker Xi3 is xo 2ch/4ch vs 3/2ways... Why you need pre-amp... for me your kicker xi3 can give you what u need.... either in semi active set-up or full active set-up... pleased read more about your XO... Just simple... Connect RCA out from your HU to Front input your XO... then just on your parallel input swicth... Xi3 also have Remote Control for sub output... sub volume not your prob anymore...save money on RCA & time laa bro....

some info for your XO..
input 2ch = output is 3way (low, band & high pass)
input 4ch = output is 2way (low & band/high pass)

Rear speaker just connect it direct from HU... No need amp... rear speaker place & rear passenger ears very close... U need to think about that also....

good work oldskool, agree 100%:shades_smile:

Hahaha noted oldskoolz on throwing the preamp into the river hahaha

I must agree that your recommended setup is the way to go, initially that was my configuration as well.

However, I am just deliberating whether can use or not a preamp between the HU and the x-over, and trying to find its pro and cons.

If possible to use a preamp with this setup, I would then have the convenience of minor sound adjustments from the front when driving (easy to adjust, install below HU maa). I don't plan to install my xover anywhere near me, you see.

So, this is what all this is actually about. The convenience of having a little sound adjustment via the preamp. Although I know that this is not the best setup, as the xover is pretty much can do everything which you have said.

Aiseh, overall good advice oldskoolz, laughed my head off about the sungai Kelang bit hahaha

So, after listening to my sad story about easy tuning from the front, how lah? Still go to river with the preamp ahhh?

Cheers bros!

I did not understand your tuning prob...??? I'm using 7998 with 3preout... never tuning either on the road or beside road... U mean every time cd change track u need to tune aaa... Hopefully U can ask good installer to install it for you... coz tuning for freq, gain, slope, phass adj & etc can be done at Xi3... so actually what your problem... I'm also using Pyle Xo - PE5000 (chrome) around 2001... that why I know this brand cap ayam 1... only can used for 3-4months.. after that kong... said have 1 yr warranty... got from where... bought directly from china 2/3 kontena... after that sale it to us... Pyle, Caliber, Alpine MRV-F705 & etc.. this stuff like Pampers... just use & throw...

Let's put it this way. I listen to ALL kinds of music, and basically I mostly use MP3 to combine all those kind of music i listen to in several CDs.

As most are quite aware, during the ripping process to MP3, some songs may be lacking in bass or even have their high notes too high, depending on the audio process. This is when `minor adjustments, not tuning' comes into play. Ie. tweeter sounds too sharp cut a bit lah, midbass not enuff add a bit lah etc.

So I'm not referring to tuning slopes, frequency, phase or whatnots. The major tuning will already be done on the xover. This is minor sound adjustments done according to the playback type of music o the preamp. Just simple cutting or adding whichever element is lacking such as mid-highs, mid mass or tweets.

Irregardless of cap ayam or not, it's like you are referring that all brands are cap ayam.

The real issue here is the combined usage of a preamp AND crossover. Not whether cap ayam or not. Given a good preamp, then how? Am I still not able to use it?

Is it still not recommended?

As always, thanks all for the input!

Always learning and never will stop,

Cheers.

No arguement please, don't become like me, is just a forum after all. But sometimes still woll get pissed off from some statements. Anyway ayam or not ayam brand, it still can be use, only XO can tune hz by hz which our ears cannot find the diff.
We are here to changing info, not to say what product is no good. If you say Pyle is no good then I will ask what is so good on Alpine? The faceplate is same for every model, the display is too bright for some models(become hazard at night) and when listen to radio some area cannot get and so on...
Anyway Bububann, if rip CDs to mp3, what sofeware you are using? If got Creative soundcard try to use their software, else use Musicmatch Jukebox. These 2 are the best software I have met so far. Then the bit from 128 set to 192 and above. With this way the bass or treble still will run abit, but still better than ripped at 128. If you are a Initial-D sound track kaki, then you should try the song Victoria- Stay. This song the bass from ori CD and mp3 you can feel the diff. Ori is solid and mp3 is...

Hehehe

Mana ada gaduh.. Just exchanging technical information and maybe bring up an issue people never tried before (or maybe just me lah).

The possibility of having both preamp and crossover is `normally' redundant, and usage of preamp would welcome signal loss and distortion as mentioned in here.

However, if all those aspects (noise/distortion) can be overcomed, the ICE setup would be pretty clean looking, only HU and preamp at the front, the rest of the stuff is concealed.

For my HU I plan to run everything level (no tweaking in built in crossover, SLA, EQ) so the signal is `plain'. From this, the signal processing will be mainly done by the x-over (first stage, or vice versa), and then the amps (2 nd stage, or vice versa). If the need really arises, then stage 3 would be tweaking the inbuilt equalization aspects in the HU itself.

Now when all of that is done, and to get `on the move' minor adjustments, I thought of plugging in the preamp between the system. As I mentioned MP3 selalu output will not be the same, ie. volume, bass, treble, etc. Here the preamp makes it easy for minor adjustments during driving.

So, if my PYLE is chicken brand, what would we good? AudioControl? If I buy that, then how would my wiring be? The issue still remains to be solved then

As for the MP3 ripper, I have used many and I can safely say the Creative and also No 1 CD ripper delivers the best quality at 128 or 192 kbps. Tapi sometimes we download MP3 from the internet then how to control the quality lah?

And so the story goes.... Where got fight lar..

Open question and answer session only worrr...

Peace, and Cheers!

bubu bro the answer to your question is yes, no problem in putting equiliser in between HU & crossover, in fact it is quite common, high end also. only thing is the choice in eq that u are using. better save up for audio control eh...? wiring is same as i replied earlier.

also if u play mp3 a lot u must try an alpine with MX function. it is an inbuilt equilisation setting specially for mp3s. works pretty well for most ppl...

hehehe

Cheers all for the replies. The world of ICE never ceases to amaze me!

kyheng, I'm working lah but where got study so old oledi hehe

The reason u see me day and night is got insomnia problem wor, only sleep 4 hours a day. At office full internet facilities, at home also got internet lor... Own office maaa. Kinda like internet ghost la me hahaha. You also online all the time what haha

Ahhhh... thank you Zenn.

The light has been shed finally. Hmm ok will do as you recommend, wire as you have mentioned earlier. Ok should look further into better preamps then, don't wanna risk any of the abovementioned mishaps from happening.

Care to recommend any other preamps other than AudioControl?

Mmm what's the selling price like for the Alpine MP3 built in with MX function? Which specific model number ya? 3 preouts I assume?

Also, zeen need to ask you a personal favour. Could you please clear ur PM mesage box so I can send you one? Need to ask about something. Thanks bro!

Thanks again, all!

Cheers!
