Hi All,
I recently bought a spare auto g/b for my car for RM800. I have now purchased a transmission rebuilt kit for RM550 and a bunch of special tools from the internet. I am planning to strip down the entire transmission, follow step by step instructions that I downloaded from the net, and change and rebuild the entire g/b. I have not done it before but I believe if I am disciplined and followed step by step I should be able to do it.

Anyone done this job before at home? Looking for someone with experience to share and to tell me what to look out for.

You should look for the centre shaft whether it is worn out or not and test the valve body solenoid whether it have the correct ohm.gud luck for you gearbox rebuilt.

I think it's better to do it with a friend who is familiar or at least have some knowledge of gearbox rebuild. You may need a pair of helping hands and two brains are better than one. It's just to be safe and avoid costly repairs afterwards. I wish you good luck. :top:

Haven't got many friends who are willing to take up or have done a transmission overhaul, I'm afraid. I have plenty of friends who want to look-see-look-see though, once it's all opened up. One good thing about doing it alone - if I screwed up, at least no one would know. hehe.

Thanks, will keep this in mind. Anyone knows where I can buy brand new valve solenoids and all the sensors attached to the transmission? Not at a g/b repair shop please, they are cut-throats.

xpe bro. Janji kene try. After all, it's a spare gearbox. The most is I lose some $$, my ride still works.

If everything susah we give up then we will never improve kan?

i suggest u prepare a few small bucket/plastic cup as screw/bolt/nuts separator as u step by step removing parts....

wide open space needed to layout the dismantled parts so it doesn't tangle away tripping you...

another good safety precaution is arrange all the part according to the removing sequence....the nearest part should be the one u remove the earliest....so the last part being further away from the gearbox housing....... so if u forgot which part goes in first then u can roll back the step according to the part arrangement...

I am so embarrased to tell you that I haven't gone very far with this project. Been so busy with a new born and all. All I have done is cleaning the alloyed Al housing (even that I am not done yet). You can see I have two spare F4A23s. Don't ask me why I bought two. Maybe still thinking of my younger days when I had the time to work on two projects at once. So my progress? Errrmmm, still cleaning outer housing with diesel and metal brushes.

Space? I'll have to make some and fight with my wife's laundry area. I know I won't win, but the metal will be too heavy and dirty for her to touch so I doubt she'll remove it herself if I ate into her space.

Oh, and thought I'll just show you the special tools that I have prepared for this job. Not the normal tools. Some I had, some I bought and some I made myself. Even this is not complete. I'll need to modify as I go along, especially the bearing and seal installers.
