its been confirmed JP Montoya will leave F1 to race in 2007 US Nascar championship. that will leave an empty seat at McLaren next year.

as Alonso had signed a contract to drive with McLaren next season, it would be interesting to find out whether...

1. Kimi will stay and partner Alonso
2. Kimi will switch to Renault instead.
3. Kimi will drive for Ferrari and force Felipe Massa out.
4. if it will be case 2 or 3, who will partner Alonso then at McLaren?
5. in case of 3, would there be hope for Massa to race in 2007? but which team?

what you all think? any other weird ideas??:mouth_closed:

Actually i felt sorry for kimi, because he's a good driver but being with mclaren not giving him any luck. I thought kimi already sign with renault for next yr.

We'll find out in a few days. Renault expected to make a few announcements during the French GP.

There will be much lesser crashes caused by drivers that's for sure, with people like Montoya and Sato gone.

haha...but it will make the race less interesting...

I laughed out loud when I read the news that he's moving to 'rubbing is racing' NASCAR!
That'll suit his style - and he can go bumping and rubbing other cars and blame everyone else. NASCAR and Chip Ganassi has scored a coup- ppl will flock to see him drive in NASCAR

is that the reason why they are pushing Briatore so hard?

As Renault gears up for its home Grand Prix this weekend at Magny Cours, there is increasing speculation over the future of team prinicipal Flavio Briatore. The Italian, who has guided Renault to championship glory, has for some time now been stalling over an extension to his current contract - which expires at the end of this year.

Renault's F1 president Alain Dassas has confirmed that an offer is on Briatore's desk and according to reports the company is pushing Briatore for a decision by weekend.

Briatore is thought to be stalling on signing his new deal until he has a clearer picture over who will partner Fisichella next season. Briatore is a shrewd operator and knows unless the team has someone capable of winning the drivers' championship, he will likely be the scapegoat and might rather elect to leave the team while it is still at the top of its game.

French shall hate Italian after Worldcup.

haha..maybe flavio should leave Renault and join McLaren along side Alonso next season... work in co-op with Ron to run McLaren.. wonder if Ron will accept Flavio after Flavio making fun of him on screen.. :)

Ron Dennis is probably the last person Flavio Briatore wants to get along with.

Montoya leave McLaren with immediate effect.
http://www.f1racing.net/en/news.php?newsID=123802

Juan Pablo Montoya will leave the McLaren team with immediate effect after coming to a mutual agreement. The move will let Montoya join NASCAR sooner and give him more time to get up to speed with the series. McLaren test driver Pedro de la Rosa will replace Montoya in France.

"Juan Pablo is an exciting driver and immensely likeable character who will undoubtedly make a successful transition to the NASCAR scene," said McLaren team boss Ron Dennis in a statement issued on Tuesday morning. "We have agreed that with so many things happening in Juan Pablo's life right now, he should take some time out of the car and prepare professionally and personally for the future."

De la Rosa will make his second race appearance for the team following a points scoring debut in the 2005 Bahrain Grand Prix when he deputised for the injured Montoya.

"I'm of course extremely thrilled to have this opportunity to race the MP4-21 - a car in which I'm really comfortable," said de la Rosa. "I know the MP4-21 better than anyone else and I'm confident that I can achieve important World Championship points for the team."

Take it easy. He didn't race competitively for a while. So there is some rustiness. I think Pedro can be a great role player.

Sato yes, but i wouldn't agree with you on Montoya. He's been in a couple of controversial racing incidents in this few years but i'd say he's been penalised too harshly. Don't know why people always associate him as being reckless but he's actually quite an ok driver. I can agree with you on Sato coz he makes one of the worst decisions when on track. At one point, his pit crew had to guide him thru the first corner of a race.

Its a real shocker that Montoya will be replaced with immediate effect. Sacking is the more impolite word to use here. Maybe the clash with Raikkonen last week had a small part to play in Montoya's dismissal.

Pedro De La Rosa probably clocks more mileage than any other driven in Mclaren because he's the test driver. He'll come pretty good. However, i'm dissapointed Mclaren will not debut their prodigy, Lewis Hamilton who's said to be a really quick fella.

Yes, Montoya is talented but that doesn't mean he isn't reckless, which he is.

Can you relate a few incidents that makes you think he's reckless.

At times, racing accidents happens and that doesn't mean one driver is to be blamed and deemed reckless.

To be honest, I can't recollect, apart from the US GP one. But he has left an impression on me that of a reckless driver. That and reports I've read.

I could be wrong, so why don't we extend this question to everybody.

Do you guys think JP Montoya is a reckless driver?
a) Yes.
b) No.

I dont know who's dumber

Montoya for signing with Chip Ganassi's NASCAR outfit (JPM drove for his Champ car teamand won the Championship with Target Chip Ganassi)

or

Ron Denis for promoting Arrows reject - Pedro De La Rosa

Kimi must be laughing

Alex Wurz must be crying

Uncle Norbert must be pleased

Chip must be grinning

I'm bemused - I'd like to see JPM go rub bumpers with those hardcore NASCAR drivers.

i think the more appropriate term is 'requested to leave' instead of u r fired!!

i wonder what will the top 3 teams drivers line up next season like...

Renault
1. Giancarlo Fisichella
2. any guess?

McLaren
1. Fernando Alonso
2. any fuess....Nico Rosberg maybe?
