The Kembara is a full-time 4WD which means you cannot engage or disengage the 4WD system. It's permanent. The button that you mention is a differential lock(DL). When engaging DL, power from the engine is equally distributed to both the front and rear axle which means 50% power to front and 50% power to rear.

The older Kembara is known to have high fc issues. However, the newer DVVT alleviate this. I get approx 12-14l/km.

For more info, just ask and I'll try my best. I'm no expert but I do know a info or two to get by.

maybe its wrong cause i do see a button there
its just base on my experience k
peace ;)

No prob bro. :)

There's certainly a buttonalright but it's a differential lock and not to disengage/engage the 4WD as the Kembara is a permanent 4WD.

Cheers B)

Thanx 4 da info bro..anyway r u using the dvvt model? im looking for the 1997 model coz i think dat fits my budget..for the fc..how can i remedy it? can i send to perodua n hav it rechipped or reprogrammed to adjust back the fc? or is there any tuner or parts dat can help improving da fc? or is it just a matter of how heavy my foot is on the pedal? thread lightly n da fc wont suffer..i hope ;) one more thing..when u disengage da DL..will it be front drive or rear? thanx man bro 4 da info.. :D

I'm driving the DVVT model. No regrets! You can't do much about the fc. The car is build as such that the only significant way is to replace the engine. Of cos, your left foot helps but not much.

You got the DL wrong bro. When you engage, it distribute power 50/50 equally to front and rear. 50% power to front and 50& power to rear. When disengage, front/rear will also have power but not equal. It could be 70/30 or 75/25. But one thing's for sure, whether you engage or disengage, fornt and rear have power to drive.

wing man bro..thanx for da info...so the split torque drive bias is divided to 25/75%.. the DL will tend to transfer the drive ratio in favour of whom? is it 75% to da front or 75% to the rear? usually i guess the split torque ratio will definately favours the rear wheel, right? so just like subaru's torque split n skyline's HICAS system laa..hehehe..anyway does it hav any LSDs? is it a live axle at the rear or it uses driveshafts like CRV? thanx again man bro.. :D

Not too sure about the power ratio but it's more bias towards the front so I'm told. The Kembara uses a live axle. No worries about it man. It's pretty sturdy. Sad to say, Malaysian version got no LSD.

I go offroading with my rig as you can see from my pic. It has seen a fair share of offroading in muddy terrain, gravel road and of cos river fording. You may wish to join us when you get one...eerr your girlfriend that is. You can bring along your girlfriend as there are a few girls thatfollow us as well.

No offence taken. There's a few Kembara that's running real fast. I know one that has a 4age engine under the hood and it's for dragging. The Kembara can really take corners eventhough it has a higher gravity point.

Here's the fully modified Kembara.
