How many times this process can be done to an engine???

Coz i heard b4 ppl say 1 engine canot overhaul too many times 1... If too many times alr the overhaul process has no effect to the engine...
How true is this???

Or can juz overhaul whenver we c white smoke or the engine consuming a lot of engine oil???

IMO there's no limit on how many times u can overhaul the engine, coz overhaul can be as minor as changing defective pulley to as major as replacing a defective engine block.

If u overhaul the engine when it's still in excellent condition, then u won't get any benefit of overhauling except richer workshop <_<

I think kher is asking how many times can the engine be rebored....

kher,

the terms overhaul can be used for many types of parts replacement. Such as gasket, u need to overhaul to change gasket. It doesn't mean that overhaul has to rebore ur engine. hope that helps.

till maximum size piston that fit ure cylinder, but power would not be the same having bigger bore each time overhauling. max u could 5 or 6 times .. y?.. want overhaul?

yeah even in workshop also there are few definitons of overhaul.

its either top overhaul (minor or some ppl say grind valve). this usually occurs for average cars ageing ten years. the main sign is bluish white smoke emitted from ur tail pipe as u accelerate and the smoke smelled like burning oil instead of vapour. this occurs due to worn out valve seals which in effect causing oil to be sucked into the combustion chamber. for certain cars...can feel loss of power too.

2nd is major overhaul. this, other than the top overhaul includes changing of piston and piston ring set. whether to rebore or not is subjective. some cars like older nissan (datsun) are known to have engines with low-wear cylinder liners. my car had major complete overhaul at 380,000km. only need to change the piston and ring set. that also not requiring for bigger size.

but in case of seized engines due to overheating, the cylinder head will normally twist, thus need to be machined. cylinder liners need to be rebores or replaced at all. this is becoz in case metal had expanded caused by very high temperatures and pressures, it wont get back to its original dimension once cooled down. this kind of engine overhaul is bloody damn expensive and a cheaper solution is to change with a similar kind of motor or better still, upgrade to more powerful one.
like normal SO4 civic 1.5 upgrade to 1.6 and so on.

hi, my engine is quite old travel more than 120,000km. No major problem, but seem like lack of power and higher FC. Recommended for overhaul?

i guess engines that are already 100 000km needs an overhaul. Not sure if they can be machined more than twice, because if the bore too big,can make the block weaker?

how come it bloody damn expensive?normal local proton12v full overhaul with workmanship around rm1.5k,others up to 16v or more bigger c.c car around rm2.5k,depend those stuff quality, but overhaul = new engine, unless u wan to upgrade more powerful engine

depends wat kind of engine oil u use,if u take care the engine very well, just need replace those engine head top set or just change piston rings, tats enuff

if the bore too big, over the original size, normally heavy mod n/a car do it,but take risk cause the engine easy overheating and can't stand for the preassure engine blown

overhaul about 3 times, depends ur engine wear..got 3 original size to replace ur piston, piston ring, conrod bearing and main bearing ...if over the piston size then have to change engine,no choice

Just do a major service if you havn't done so, major service should be carried out every 100K km, probably check things like ur spark plugs, cables, belts, oil and fuel filter... and tune ur car maybe, set the ignition timing to factory specs....

20w-50 shouldnt be too bad on older engines i think, yea i think generally ppl put thicker engine oil into older engines. But i guess have to do oil change more.

right now my rb has about 56thousand k,and im using 5w-40 fuchs.

Full head service like(new valves and stuff) ,i guess can be considered as a big job so yes major overhaul as well?Because some of the head component, have to grind it a bit to make fit right?

generally 100 000k service, apart from the normal stuff, needs timing belt, other belts, change radiator hoses and clamps, and new water pump is a good idea as well.I guess preventative work would mean u dont have to encounter crazy cost in the future.

I used to use Nasa 10w-40(semi) plus additives. My timing belt is ard 50,000km. Full servie the radiator before(RM200) but dun think changed the hoses. The water is for the cooling system? My temp never exceed half of the meter. not bad ah for 13 yrs old car. Btw, anyone done blue print before by Powerzone?? any ideas? thks

can we order a new engine from factory for replacement? will it be expensive?

haha...no ppl will do it...coz the price can own ur car
to make the engine more durable...engine oil is the point, change it before the mileage n use good quality engine oil, some more normally change 2 or 3 time timing belt change once water pump...coz the workmanship almost the same..so better watch up ;)
