hi all drifters, just wondering wat sorta tyres would u guys normally use to drift? do u use good tyres like es100 or just some cheaper tyres like sime tyres? as far as i know, u need less grip in drifting, therefore u should use cheaper tyres. besides, i think the tyre will botak quite fast too. please explain.

MK84, why not FTZ sport?
I'm using them on my accord and i've slid and lost grip SO MANY TIMES and hit so damn many dingdongs that i recommend it as the CHEAPEST DRIFT TYRE OUT THERE!

all track cars also use silverstone tyres..especially ftz's....when in pit the time i see all also use those..some even stz's... some botak techno rubbers also go in track, SLICK mar! :rolleyes: :D
MK, err.. 1 dumb question, if they dont have grip... isn't it easier to drift?
if there is no grip..then it'll last lo9nger for ur practices!!!!!
i'm using ANY SECONDHANDED tyres which below rm80/one......yes!! even with patch hole !!!!
n yet some barger intent to sapu 10 or 20 second hand tyres at one time which spoil the market!!! curse on him....strike by drifting god!!
no grip kenot drift...coz will face understeer and fr car's rear tyre wif no grip kenot accelerate when going out from a corner..
like wat owes happen in Initial D, most off them lose coz dint care for the tyre at 1st and face problem when they are near to the final point coz tyre no more grip liao..

Some of you have got it the wrong way actually.
If you say that tyres that has no or very little amount of grip on the road, how is the car suppose to grip the road in the 1st place to accelerate? Don't tell me you can drift your car 1st gear all the way now can you? Yet a brand new tyre with very good grip doesn't allow the car to drift very much.
I suppose a cheap, budget tyre to get for drifting would be good enough even to choose Dunlop or Silverstone with somewhat enough traction for your car to accelerate fast enough and yet also allowing you to hit that turn with minimal traction for your car to drift.
I'll go for dunlop as it's dirt cheap so can play with my tyres all day long. :lol:

Most pro drifters use very good rubber, and there's a good reason for this.
First, breaking traction isn't about the power (although don't expect to drift on an underpowered car). It's about managing weight transfer, and by doing this you can take away grip from the rear by transferring weight to the front. Good suspension setup is very important here.
Secondly, when the sideways ends, you need grip to pull your car straight again.

hahah 1st time in this section.. cool cool.. now this lousy drift site of mine really gota go life soon :P lol..
anyway.. yeah any lousy tired will do when you are starting to learn..
but having good tires.. (NEW) do make alot of difference..

some loupek tires.. you may me drifting.. but teh feedback, accuracy & speed will be will be significantly reduced compared to a new tyre... i tried ES100 new tyres.. now that time i had more grip and confident compared to using 40-70 bucks tires.. which i'm currently using. spin out is easier too in lousy tires.
now who is kind enuf to sponsor me tyres ? any 1 ? lol.
do upgrade your self and the tyres when ur skill grow.
new and soft compound & more grip the tyres give, the better the drifting will go. and the more smoke and finishes faster too.
therefore for lamers like me.. i go for rm 40bucks tyres which indirectly limit your skills.

zee, lamers like you? haha you have got to be kidding us bro. you lame? you are the one who masters the traction breaking skills bro. hmmm but good too reading in this section. never notived this section however, just today hehe. i reckon bottomline is, you need a little bit of grip to increase the traction and a little less to break the traction, only then you will not break the speed rythm.
ders no doubt tat u need good tyre 2 do a good drift .....can c tat those D1 drivers use good tyre like Advan stuff.....nomuken has a 285 width at his rear....can u imagine how good is he & how powerful his car is 2 drift it .... :)
i do admit there.. with big new tyres.. like 265 or 285.. you need big power too..

goin 2 get a 155 width ...hahaha, still remember da time at ss02 when i strip da tyre until da wires were shown ar(like coli .... :P ) .....i was really sked it'll blow & flip da car ..... :(

What tyres to use? Haha any tires.... old or new, the cheaper the better.
One thing though, I found out that ZR rated tyres can last longer than normal R rated tyres. The R tyres will get swollen easily on a hot day, and usually it can take as short as 3 minutes to finish off the tyres depending on road surface.

yes, less grip is easier to break traction....but u need good tyres to giv u good feedback to control properly....but if ur car is underpower big tyres wont help...and of coz, grip at the front is important
drift is not all about loosing traction, it's about weight transfer and handling....u can doing donut burnouts loosing traction all nite long but it's not called drifting
having said tat, i hav 16" wheel at the front and 15" at the back coz i suck in drifting :P still struggling to break rear traction
