Nissan has updated its Murano crossover less than four years after the launch of the original, revealing the all-new 2009 car at today’s Los Angeles Auto Show. Though styling remains similar to the outgoing version, the 2009 Murano has been upgraded with a new platform and body structure as well as an all-new steering system.
Power comes from a revised version of the current car’s 265hp 3.5L DOHC V6 mated to the latest advanced Xtronic CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) with a FWD or an AWD set-up. Handling has been enhanced with a new twin-orifice speed-sensitive power steering system, similar to the one used in Altima and 350Z.
The Murano’s new exterior features a wide front end and glaring chrome grille that flows into the large integrated headlights. The body features sculpted wheel arches, a high waistline and rear LED taillights, and rides on 18in alloys or an optional 20in set. Integrated fog lights, large chrome door handles and roof rails are available on the SL and LE models.
Inside, there’s a new dash and center stack design, double-stitched leather trim and aluminum highlights. With the 2009 model, designers also added an engine starter button, an 11 speaker stereo system, rear-view camera, iPod connectivity and a touch screen navigation system with an integrated 9.3GB hard drive.
