Michelin Pilot Sport 3

RM300 i think is standard safe market price...try to make friends with yr tyre shop owner and the price will definitely go down.

YYC...my tyre man says the asy2 performs better than the PS3...but seriously, u gotta test out the shoes to know which is best suited for yr needs.

I learnt that too but yesterday whole day I was looking into AW forum they were discussing about the vibration issue of Asymmetric 2. That makes me to think twice, maybe fall back to PS3 is a safer option or try out T1 Sport which is asymmetrical too. Cannot make up my mind. :banghead: that's why need your all's opinion.

If based on the specs, Yokohama Advan Sport also seems to be a very good option, also asymmetric type, 240 tread wear, AA traction, and probably one of the lightest tires on the market.

TW 240 for a daily driver...will be hard to make it last past a year and still maintain the AA grip rating. dont forget that the AA rating is given at the peak of the tyre's life which i'm guessing is 100% - 80% thread condition. dont think u'll still get AA when it's down to 50% which with a TW rating of 240...will come very fast.

i guess it depends on the millage u lock and how deep are your pockets.

Good explanation Arturo!
Is the treadwear number standardised across all brands? PS3's treadwear 320 just last 35,000km in my case.

Hmm years ago I've used the first version of the Pilot Preceda with TW rating also 260/280) and it was still in good condition with regards to grip and comfort after >25k kms before I sold the rims & tires. But yeah I did not corner hard too often I guess, and of course there's always trade off between grip level and lifetime of the tires.

Btw if I remember correctly, Toyo T1 Sport also has TW rating around 240-280.

I'm going to get a pair of new shoes for my ride next week. Please advise, should I go back to PS3, or F1 Asy2, or Conti? If Asy2 is as almost as good as PS3 i won't hesitate!

Could be batch problem, however mine and a few friends have no problem with it. mine is 215/45R17.
Another with Beemer on 245/45R18 also no problems , maybe he does not speed...ha! ha!
Since you are okay with PS3, stick to it, but only thing is they are more expensive....:banghead:

Treadwear take as guideline only, but between 240 to 300, about the same to me.
Manufacturer conduct their test in controlled environment, means on the track, and all that.
For daily drive, we have different car, different load, different setup, different route, potholes etc. etc. so definitely will be different.....

If Pilot Preceda (PP1) that one the compound hard like stone and noisy. PP2 was with a bit softer compound, PS3 real soft......

Uh? I felt the opposite actually. The Preceda I used before felt quite soft and very quiet! Surely more quiet than the D5 I'm using now. Btw this was >5yrs ago when I was in Jakarta, and the Preceda was made in Thailand.

Yup, 5 years should be the PP1 which came OE on the Civic FD2. If PP2 then it is softer and even though noisy is less then the PP1. My friend after 30 to 40% wear cannot stand change to Asy2...

Update guys. I got my car back. I checked the tyres again and interestingly, 2 tyres (front) has hit the tread wear indicator (Michelin man's finger) and those 2 were peeling. The other 2 tyres did not exhibit this characteristics.

So, is it because the tyres were worn so it starts to fall apart? I will be visiting my tyre shop this weekend and get it sorted.

Front tyre peel could be due to it being the drive tyres. Back ones trailing only..... Any pics?

frequent Hard acceleration that leads to fast wear off tread?? :hmmmm:

Yes I'm looking for 215/45/17 size. What is the rating of PP2 in relation to PS3? Cannot afford if price is higher than PS3.
bro vr2turbo, woow Hankook Ventus S1 Evo2 got very good rating from links you provided. Just not sure its overall performance over the treadwear lifespan.

PP2 still in production? Why not look at the GY F1 D5? prices were reasonable in comparison to Michelin offerings.

no pics cause everyday raining, zzz.

Thanks for the recommendation, F1 D5 is very attractive. It's in my list.
