Message: <blockquote data-quote="AE80TypeD" data-source="post: 849262" data-attributes="member: 722">itu la... make such a big fuss about their silly "feud". its bcoz they made such a big deal about a name, and proceeded to bicker with each other, that the municipal council takes more notice. when the MPPJ takes action, its bound to create more hu hahs bcoz the issue was overblown before.discounting the fact that almost all municipal councils do their work only when its convenient for them... they ARE cracking down on most mamak restaurants. sometimes. its just that since these 2 Sri Paandi's have already been in the limelight that the issue is very visible. sadly, some areas receive more attention than others. i know of 1 or 2 mamak restaurants enjoying their illegal table placements indefinitely bcoz the area is not a busy street and nearby residents never complained before.on the other hand, most of us are knowingly supporting and encouraging their conduct, either out of necessity or lack of choice. most of the forummers here still frequent mamaks which are most convenient for our TTs. i feel guilty as i type this but its fact, very few of us would be willing to go to big, 2 lot restaurants every week (for the price) or sit inside the hot and dirty single lot mamaks like the Syed Ariff.I join TTs in places with illegal table before and sadly, what we do and what we try to say here are 2 different things. at night, its the TT group that matters and we dont often reflect on our role in keeping the illegal practice alive. then we come in here to complain that the authorities arent doing anything to avoid a roadside mow-over tragedy. what is there to say? how should we discuss till we actually solve something?scores of ppl know how to preach and complain but still go to these mamaks and sit by the walkways and road side for TTs.what should we discuss about then?- encouraging ppl to tahpau food all the time and eat at home.- educating ppl on the importance of safety and implications of roadside dining- advising ppl to only go and eat at proper, big (and often expensive) establishments, using "for your own safety" as a tagline?- proposing a ban for all smalltime, one lot mamaks?i feel that discussing on how the authorities should be sterner and carry out their duties more dilligently & consistently is like pouring water on yam leaves. some mamaks have been extorted by authorities (im not going to say which dept) for keeping their tables there. lidat oso ask for bribe.im not being hostile with u and not trying to diss this thread, sarcastics. its a valid topic IMO but im in a frustrated and stumped mode; its not a sarcastic question or anything, honestly and humbly.. how should we discuss? sigh~</blockquote>
