The stage is set for the unveiling of the BMW 1 Series M Coupe at the Detroit Auto Show in January and things couldn’t be looking better for the hottest 1 Series yet. With approximately 345hp from its twin-turboed 3-liter straight six mill, little wonder that this model is being touted as the purest M vehicle of its time.
Still, the old adage will stop ringing true, there’s no such thing as too much power. A hotter, even more hardcore 1 Series M is reportedly brewing in the pot now. Renowned car-rendering expert, Jon Sibal, has had a word with the boys from Bavaria about a lighter and faster 1M, along the lines of the M3 CSL.
Lucky us then that BMW haven’t quite given that idea the red slip. Nonetheless, BMW maintain that initial customer reaction to the 1M will determine the need for a CSL/GTS version. They even went so far as to mention that “We have a cabrio unofficially.”
Sibal then went to work and produced a rendering of what it might look like, a sort of 1M CSL. Get your napkins ready because the drool will flow with this one, especially with the BMW racing stripes streaked across the hood and side skirts.
