[QUOTE="khairiaz, post: 1901803, member: 22223"] I do not believe that any cars can still go for another 30-40km when the low fuel level indicator starts blinking. For cars with inefficient and inaccurate fuel system, you might probably can do this but for cars like Honda, BMW, Merc, it will coz a damn deep hole in your pocket. Driving your car with very low fuel level will cause your pump to cavitate. These pumps have their pumping design capacity and when the fuel level is extremely low, you can just imagine the damage it will do on your pump and engine system especially when you have EFI system. I used to drive my Putra 4G93T GSR eventhough the low fuel level light already blinking. As a result, my engine died. I had to make few trips to the petrol station to bring the fuel level to the minimum low level as required. I thought the problem ended there but I ended up having spent few bucks on re-tuning the engine. As far as I am concern, reserve tanks are not installed in any cars in Malaysia. Reserve tank is usually installed in vehicles with high-engine capacity. What I know, Toyota Landcruiser (latest model) 4.5V6 G/GX/GXR, 4.7L V8 VXR and the Lexus LS470, Toyota Prado 4.0L V6, have this reserve tank. There are two tanks, one with 90L and another with 40L. So, even if you run dry with the 90L tank, you still can drive another 30km before the fuel level indicator on the 2nd tank lights on. Indicators for there 2 tanks on the speedometer also are different. Having said that, not all 4WD vehicles are equipped with this reserve tank. Heavy duty full-size 4WD vehicles such as The Landcruiser and the Prado, which have 2 separate gears, are equipped with this reserve tank. other 4WD vehicles, with AWD or full-time 4WD, like the Merc ML, BMW X5, X3, Volvo XC90, Honda MRV 3.5V6, Lexus RX330, do not have this separate reserve tank. Why reserve tanks are installed? becoz these 4WD heavy-duty full-size vehicles are designed for off-road conditions. when they go deep into the desert, they need sufficiently large amount of fuel in store, in case they lose or sesat in the desert.
