Hello fellow feilos...DEFFY IS BACK!!! Had a Y-Pipe put in on Saturday in Sg. Petani. Was feeling very stressed, so decided to drive out to the exhaust shop for some "quiet" time... Mine is slightly different in design than the ones we have been debating. The two pipes run parallel into a "junction" shaped like a "V" and both fire backwards into the Y-Junction. Then into a single flex pipe, to the first joint. Also got rid of the center box, and the bullet I had installed earlier in place of my cat converter. So, it's direct flow all the way to my rear muffler...which is not stock. I had an S-flow stainless steel muffler put in a year ago, and it's still in very good condition. The response is interesting... a) Noise level...at idle, it's quiet...almost too quiet. You NOW hear the left and right banks of the "V" firing independently. As we have 6 cylinders, each is simply as large as a 2l in-line-4 motor, so, no great rush of exhaust gasses each combustion cycle. Just a quiet "dap...dap...dap...dap". Initially, it sounded like a tug boat, as my idle speed dropped to about 500 rpm, but that was easily remedied by some roadside tuning. b) Upon acceleration, then you hear a little bit of a roar. Not very loud, but very deep and pretty butch. Generally, the noise level was quite tolerable, but I think most would prefer to put in a high-flow bullet to tame it a little. c) Response - I feel that there was some lessening of low rpm torque, but it quickly picks up once your engine reaches 2k rpm. You'll feel it kick and keep going after. I didn't have the time to test high speed, but for sure, the engine was breathing easier and throttle response was light. The most effect, I feel, was somewhere in the mid-range, where there was no longer any hesitation to hard acceleration whilst already moving. I feel that this would also benefit high end performance, and would like to test it soon. d) FC - No opportunity to test. But generally, the feeling I get was that it was about the same. Then again, not many people have a foot as heavy as mine so... I have no humming, and the car is pretty smooth, at idle, even smoother than stock. The price... $ 320 with flex pipe...
