A story I would like to share. When I was living in Melbourne, my best friend also a housemate is a big fan of Beemer. He has three Beemers to his name. Two were ol'skool models from the late 70's - (The 2002 model, very powerful coupe) and the other is a daily driven 80's 3 series. This Kid - he reads alot. Has a library of books on Beemers, Engines, Automobiles. he has no background as a mechanic or whatsoever, He was my classmate in University doing our Bachelor of Arts in Advertising. Now this kid could do wonders, by just reading and understanding, He could take the engine apart and put them back together again and work. This Kid has limited tools and I once helped him to remove a camshaft by using a broom stick. What we did was use the shaft of the broom stick to hammer the camshaft out. We succeeded after few attemps and a damanged broom stick and also some missing springs. He knows what parts to buy for replacement by reading and getting the product codes and obataining it personally to avoid getting ripped off by third party. So I guess by reading and understanding we learn. Alot. I dont intent to emulate my friend nor intent to take my engine apart but would like to have a better undertsanding of it (my engine). I have encountered people telling "all-sorts of things" like how things work or why they failed to work...etc..But my questions is how concrete are their knowledge, where did they obtain such an info. By reading, experience or making them up. I think the reason why Newstands/Bookshops here dont carry much books on Engines/automobiles is bacause of lack of demand. So guys, share with us good books you guys have read. On engine and its related components. Not playboys..... Supremus
